SHOULD WE BOAST?

GOD SAID IN HIS WORD – NO

To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’ 13    “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ 14    “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”            Luke 18:9-14

Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be  arrogant, but tremble.    Rom 11:20

In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe  yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”       1 Pet 5:5

GOD SAID – PAUL BOASTS OF HIS FAITH AND SAYS ONE SHOULD BE PROUD OF IT

Therefore I glory in Christ Jesus in my service to God.    Rom 15:17

In this self-confident boasting I am not talking as the Lord would, but as a fool.    2 Cor 11:17

SHOULD WE SHOW OUR GOOD WORKS?

GOD SAID IN HIS WORD – YES, SAY

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and  glorify your Father in heaven.    Matt 5:16

Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may
see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.    1 Pet 2:12

GOD SAID – NO, SAYS

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.       Matt 6:1-4

“Everything they do is done for people to see: They make their phylacteries[a] wide and the tassels on their garments long;    Matt 23:5

SHOULD WE ABSTAIN FROM EATING FLESH?

GOD SAID IN HIS WORD – YES, IF IT OFFENDS, SAYS PAUL

It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother or sister to fall.    Rom 14:21

GOD SAID – BUT LET NO ONE PASS JUDGMENT ON YOU IN MATTERS OF FOOD AND DRINK

Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.    Col 2:16

They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4 For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,     1 Tim 4:3-4

Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.       Gen 9:3

SHOULD WE WORRY ABOUT THE FUTURE?

GOD SAID IN HIS WORD – NO SAYS

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]? 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.         Matthew 6:25-34

Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life[a]? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? 27 “Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 28 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! 29 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30 For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31 But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.        Luke 12:22-31

GOD SAID – YES SAYS

Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.    1 Tim 5:8

SHOULD WE PLEASE?

GOD SAID – THAT PAUL DOES

even as I try to please everyone in every way. For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved.    1 Cor 10:33

GOD SAID -THAT PAUL DOESN’T

Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.    Gal 1:10

SHOULD WE “RUN”?

GOD SAID IN HIS WORD – YES

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.    1 Cor 9:24

GOD SAID – NO

As it is written:

“There is no one righteous, not even one;    Rom 3:10

ARE THERE ANY WHO ARE RIGHTEOUS?

GOD SAID IN HIS WORD – NO

“Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.    Mark
10:18,

As it is written:

“There is no one righteous, not even one;    Rom 3:10

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,    Rom 3:23

8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.    1 John 1:8-10

“When they sin against you—for there is no one who does not sin—and you become angry with them and give them over to their enemies, who take them captive to their own lands, far away or near;     1 Kings 8:46

All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.    Ps 14:3

GOD SAID – IN HIS WORD – SAYS YES

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.    James 5:16

If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,”    James 2:3

In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron. 6 Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly.      Luke 1:5-6

I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.    Luke 15:7

Ezek 18 lists what one must do to be “just” (=righteous?)   (also Gen 7:1  Job 1:1, 8)

GOD SAID – GOD ONLY PROTECTS ONLY THE RIGHTEOUS

For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”    1 Pet 3:12

although Jesus died both for the just and the unjust

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.    1 Pet 3:18

GOD SAID – PAUL IS THE CHIEF SINNER

Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.    1 Tim 1:15

GOD SAID – TRUE CHRISTIANS DO NOT SIN

No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.

7 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. 9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God.    1 John 3:6-9

SHOULD WE CALL ANYBODY A “FOOL”?

GOD SAID IN HIS WORD – JESUS SAYS NO, WE WOULD BE IN DANGER OF HELL-FIRE

But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister [a][b] will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’[c] is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.    Matt 5:22

GOD SAID – BUT JESUS DOES SO

But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.    Matt 7:26

You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes the gold sacred?       Matt
23:17

You blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred?    Matt 23:19

Five of them were foolish and five were wise.    Matt 25:2

You foolish people! Did not the one who made the outside make the inside also?    Luke 11:40

GOD SAID – AND PAUL DOES

but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,    1 Cor
1:23

Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become “fools” so that you may become wise.    1 Cor 3:18

We are fools for Christ, but you are so wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, we are dishonored!    1 Cor 4:10

How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies.    1 Cor 15:36

You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified.    Gal 3:1

SHOULD WE CURSE OUR ENEMIES?

GOD SAID IN HIS WORD – JESUS CURSES HIS ENEMIES

Matt 6:15, 12:34, 16:3, 22:18, 23:13-15, 17, 19, 27, 29, 33

He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.    Mark 7:6

You foolish people! Did not the one who made the outside make the inside also?    Luke 11:40

“Woe to you, because you are like unmarked graves, which people walk over without knowing it.”    Luke 11:44

Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time?    Luke 12:56

GOD SAID – JESUS SAYS LOVE YOUR ENEMIES

But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.    Matt 5:39

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,    Matt 5:44

GOD SAID – BUT SHUN GENTILES, SAMARITANS, NON-BELIEVERS

Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take them into your house or welcome them. 11 Anyone who welcomes them shares in their wicked work.    2 John 9-11

These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans.    Matt 10:5

GOD SAID – GOD DESTROYS HIS ENEMIES

But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and kill them in front of me.’”    Luke 19:27

GOD SAID – PAUL CURSES HIS ENEMIES

Alexander the metalworker did me a great deal of harm. The Lord will repay him for what he has done.    2 Tim 4:14

GOD SAID – AND DO DOUBLE WHAT THEY HAVE DONE TO YOU

Give back to her as she has given; pay her back double for what she has done. Pour her a double portion from her own cup.    Rev 18:6

GOD SAID – DO NOT REJOICE WHEN YOUR ENEMY FALLS

for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.        Saying 28

17    Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice,
18    or the Lord will see and disapprove and turn his wrath away from them.    Prov 24:16-18

SHOULD WE JUDGE?

 GOD SAID – NO

“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.    Luke 6:37

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged.    Matt 7:1

GOD SAID – YES

Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”    John 7:24

SHOULD WE SWEAR OATHS?

GOD SAID – IT IS FORBIDDEN

But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; 35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King.    Matt 5:34-35

GOD SAID IN HIS WORD – ACCEPTABLE

Therefore, anyone who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. 21 And anyone who swears by the temple swears by it and by the one who dwells in it. 22 And anyone who swears by heaven swears by God’s throne and by the one who sits on it.    Matt 23:20-22

Also      Num 30:2, Gen 21:23-24, 31, 31:53, Heb 6:13

SHOULD CHRISTIANS “CONTEND”?

 GOD SAID – SAYS YES.

Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s
holy people.    Jude 3

PAUL CONTENDED

As was his custom, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, 3 explaining and proving that the Messiah had to suffer and rise from the dead. “This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Messiah,” he said. 4 Some of the Jews were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a large number of God-fearing Greeks and quite a few prominent women.    Acts 17:2-4

So he reasoned in the synagogue with both Jews and God-fearing Greeks, as well as in the marketplace day by day with those who happened to be there.    Acts 17:17

GOD SAID – DO NOT CONTEND

The lips of fools bring them strife, and their mouths invite a beating.    Prov 18:6

Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge,    1 Tim 6:20

Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 16 Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.    2 Tim 2:14-16

And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.    2 Tim 2:24

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves,
lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a  form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. 6 They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, 7 always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.    2 Tim 3:1-7

GOD SAID – ANSWER AN UNBELIEVER

But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,       1 Pet 3:15

GOD SAID – ANYONE WHO SPEAKS TO AN UNBELIEVER SHARES HIS EVIL

Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God;
whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take them into your house or welcome them. 11 Anyone who welcomes them shares in their wicked work.    2 John 9-11

GOD SAID – EXHORT “WITH ALL LONG SUFFERING”

Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.    2 Tim 4:2

DO WE HATE OR LOVE?

If you hate your brother you are a murderer and cannot love God that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”John 3:15

Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”    John 4:20

YOU MUST BE WILLING TO HATE YOUR BROTHER (AND YOUR FAMILY) TO BE A FOLLOWER OF JESUS

“If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.    Luke 14:26

TEMPTATION

DOES GOD TEMPT? GOD’S WORD SAYS NO.

When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;    James 1:13

GOD’S WORD SAY YES.

22 Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied.

And lead us not into temptation,    but deliver us from the evil one.’     Matt 6:13

Deut 4:34  8:2  Judg 2:22 (and others)

GOD CONTROLS THE EXTENT OF OUR TEMPTATIONS

13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.     1 Cor 10:13

9 if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment.     2 Pet 2:9

10 Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth.     Rev 3:10

TEMPTATION IS JOY

2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds,    James 1:2

SIN

WAS THERE SIN BEFORE THE LAW?

PAUL SAYS YES

To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law.    Rom 5:13

AND PAUL SAYS NO

because the law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression.    Rom 4:15

WHERE IS SATAN?

 CHAINED IN HELL

4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell,[a] putting them in chains of darkness[b] to be held for judgment;     2 Pet 2:4

6 And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.     Jude 6

WALKING ABOUT IN THE EARTH

8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.     1 Pet 5:8

6 One day the angels[a] came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan[b] also came with them. 7 The Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?”

Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”     Job 1:6-7

Job also says he occasionally visits heaven).

HE IS THE GOD OR PRINCE OF THIS WORLD

31 Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out.     John 12:31

12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.     Eph 6:12

HE WAS “CAST OUT” OF THE WORLD AT THE TIME OF JESUS

31 Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out.     John 12:31

DEVILS

 DEVILS CANNOT TELL A TRUTH

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.    John 8:44

DEVILS SAY THAT JESUS IS THE MESSIAH

Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, “You are the Son of God!” But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Messiah.    Luke 4:41

FORGIVENESS
WILL ALL SINS BE FORGIVEN TO THE BELIEVER?

YES    GOD SAID IN HIS WORD –

39 Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses.     Acts 13:39

13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you[a] alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins,     Col 2:13

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.     1 John 1:9

NO, NOT ALL     GOD SAID –

31 And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.     Matt 12:31-32

29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.”     Mark 3:29

FORGETS         GOD SAID – IF SIN IS FORGIVEN, GOD FORGETS IT

25 “I, I am the one who blots out your transgression for my own sake,
and I’ll remember your sins no more.     Isa 43:25

34 No longer will a person teach his neighbor or his relative: ‘Know the Lord.’ Instead, they’ll all know me, from the least to the greatest of them,” declares the Lord. “Indeed, I’ll forgive their iniquity, and I’ll remember their sin no more.”     Jer 31:34

12 For I will be merciful regarding their wrong deeds,
and I will never again remember their sins.”     Heb 8:12

REMEMBERS       GOD SAID – GOD STILL REMEMBERS IT

Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.     Ex 34:7

ARE WE COMMANDED TO BAPTIZE?

Are all apostles commanded to baptize?

GOD SAID IN HIS WORD – JESUS SAYS YES

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,    Matt 28:19

GOD SAID – PAUL SAYS NO

I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so no one can say that you were baptized in my name. 16 (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.) 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.    1 Cor 1:14-17

PAUL BAPTIZED WHO?

PAUL SAYS THAT AT CORINTH HE BAPTIZED “NONE … BUT CRISPUS AND GAIUS

I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius,    1 Cor 1:14

THEN HE SAYS HE BAPTIZED STEPHANAS’ FAMILY (V. 16). THEN PROCEEDS TO SAY HE DOESN’T KNOW WHETHER HE BAPTIZED ANY ONE ELSE

(Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.)    1 Cor 1:16

PAUL USES TRICKERY?

PAUL SAYS HE DOES NOT USE TRICKERY

For the appeal we make does not spring from error or impure motives, nor are we trying to trick you.    1 Thess 2:3

THEN PAUL SAYS HE DOES USE TRICKERY

Be that as it may, I have not been a burden to you. Yet, crafty fellow that I am, I caught you by trickery!    2 Cor 12:16

SEX/MARRIAGE

God’s first words to Adam are the command to multiply

It is not not good for the man to be alone     Gen 2:18

Paul says to avoid marriage and sex

7 Now for the matters you wrote about: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.”     1 Cor 7:1,

8 Now to the unmarried[a] and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do.      1 Cor 7:8

37 But the man who has settled the matter in his own mind, who is under no compulsion but has control over his own will, and who has made up his mind not to marry the virgin—this man also does the right thing     1 Cor 7:37

But it is better to marry than to burn (v. 9).

HONOR FATHER & MOTHER?

JESUS SAID TO HONOR FATHER AND MOTHER (OR BE PUT TO DEATH)

Because God said, ‘You are to honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘Whoever curses father or mother must certainly be put to death.’     Matt 15:4

10 Because Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘Whoever curses his father or mother must certainly be put to death.’     Mark 7:10

19 honor your father and mother,’ and, ‘you must love your neighbor as yourself.’”     Matt 19:19

19 You know the commandments: ‘Never murder.’ ‘Never commit adultery.’ ‘Never steal.’ ‘Never give false testimony.’ ‘Never cheat.’ ‘Honor your father and mother.’”     Mark 10:19

20 You know the commandments: ‘Never commit adultery. Never murder. Never steal. Never give false testimony. Honor your father and mother.’”    Luke 18:20

BUT HE REQUIRED HIS DISCIPLES TO HATE FATHER AND MOTHER

26 If any man cometh unto me, and hateth not his own father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.     Luke 14:26

AND … JESUS SAID THAT HE CAME TO TURN THE CHILDREN AGAINST THEIR PARENTS

35 For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law:     Matt 10:35

51 Think ye that I am come to give peace in the earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: 52 for there shall be from henceforth five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. 53 They shall be divided, father against son, and son against father; mother against daughter, and daughter against her mother; mother in law against her daughter in law, and daughter in law against her mother in law.     Luke 12:51-53

 “Call no man your father”
And call no man your father on the earth: for one is your Father, even he who is in heaven.     Matt 23:9

BUT YOU SHOULD PROVIDE FOR YOUR FAMILY

But if any provideth not for his own, and specially his own household, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever.     1 Tim 5:8

WHAT DO WE REAP?

YES YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.    2 Cor 9:6

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.    Gal 6:7

SOME REAP WITHOUT SOWING

“His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed?    Matt 25:26

“His master replied, ‘I will judge you by your own words, you wicked servant! You knew, did you, that I am a hard man, taking out what I did not put in, and reaping what I did not sow?
Luke 19:22

IS TEMPTATION A GOOD THING?

NO,

And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.    Matt 6:13

Forgive us our sins,
for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.
And lead us not into temptation.    Luke 11:4

YES,

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,    James 1:2

UNBELIEF

IT IS CAUSED BY THE DEVIL

Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved.    Luke 8:12

SOMETIMES IT IS CAUSED BY GOD

For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie 12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.    2 Thess 2:11-12

SOMETIMES IT IS CAUSED BY JESUS

He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the
outside everything is said in parables 12 so that, “‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’”    Mark 4:11-12

WHOSE IS THE EARTH?

 SATAN’S

31 Now is [a]the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.     John 12:31

30 I will no more speak much with you, for the prince of the world cometh: and he hath nothing in me;     John 14:30,

12 For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world-rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.     Eph 6:12

JESUS’

26 for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof.     1 Cor 10:26

and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loveth us, and loosed us from our sins by his blood;     Rev 1:5

GOD’S

29 And Moses said unto him, As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands unto Jehovah; the thunders shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail; that thou mayest know that the earth is Jehovah’s.     Ex 9:29

And Jehovah appointed a set time, saying, To-morrow Jehovah shall do this thing in the land.     Ex 9:5

14 Behold, unto Jehovah thy God belongeth heaven and the heaven of heavens, the earth, with all that is therein.     Deut 10:14

24 The earth is Jehovah’s, and the fulness thereof; The world, and they that dwell therein.     Ps 24:1

12 If I were hungry, I would not tell thee; For the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.     Ps 50:12

The heavens are the heavens of Jehovah; But the earth hath he given to the children of men.     Ps 115:16

ENEMIES

JESUS SAYS TO FORGIVE AND BLESS YOUR ENEMIES

44 but I say unto you, Love your enemies, and pray for them that persecute you;     Matt 5:44

BUT HE WILL DENY HIS ENEMIES TO GOD

32 Every one therefore who shall confess me before men, him will I also confess before my Father who is in heaven. 33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father who is in heaven.     Matt 10:32-33

GOD DOES NOT FORGIVE HIS ENEMIES, BUT CONDEMNS THEM.
JESUS SAYS THAT SOME OF HIS FOLLOWERS WILL BE PUT TO DEATH

16 But ye shall be delivered up even by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolk, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death.     Luke 21:16

BUT NOT A HAIR OF THEIR HEAD WILL PERISH

18 And not a hair of your head shall perish   Luke 21:18

SABBATH: MUST WE KEEP IT?

YES, UNDER PENALTY OF DEATH

(Ex 20:8, 31:15-17, 35:1-3, Jer 17:21-27, and many other passages).

NO

(Isa 1:13, Hos 2:11

Jesus did not keep it

27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: 28 so that the Son of man is lord even of the sabbath.     Mark 2:27- 28

16 And for this cause the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he did these things on the sabbath.     John 5:16

12 At that season Jesus went on the sabbath day through the grainfields; and his disciples were hungry and began to pluck ears and to eat. But the Pharisees, when they saw it, said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which it is not lawful to do upon the sabbath. But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was hungry, and they that were with him; how he entered into the house of God, and ate the showbread, which it was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them that were with him, but only for the priests? Or have ye not read in the law, that on the sabbath day the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are guiltless? But I say unto you, that one greater than the temple is here. But if ye had known what this meaneth, I desire mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of man is lord of the sabbath.     Matt 12:1-8

PAUL SAYS COMMANDMENT WAS NOT PERMANENT

5 One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind.     Rom 14:5

16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.     Col 2:16

Catholics say they had the authority to change the Sabbath commandment to mean the day
Sunday instead.
