CAN DEATH BE AVOIDED?

IF YOU KEEP JESUS’ WORDS, YOU WILL NEVER SEE DEATH

Very truly I tell you, whoever obeys my word will never see death.”     John 8:51

BUT ALL MEN DIE

Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,     Heb 9:27

EVEN FOLLOWERS OF JESUS

“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me.     Matt 24:9

ENOCH DID NOT DIE

Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.      Gen 5:24

By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.” For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.      Heb 11:5

ELIJAH DID NOT DIE

As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind.      2 Kings 2:11

 COMING OF THE KINGDOM:

YOU WILL SEE GREAT SIGNS AND MIRACLES

I will show wonders in the heavens
and on the earth,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
31 The sun will be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.       Joel 2:30-31

“Immediately after the distress of those days

“‘the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’

30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.[c] 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door.      Matt 24:29-33

“But in those days, following that distress,

“‘the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light;
25 the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’

26 “At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27 And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.

28 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 29 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it is near, right at the door.     Mark 13:24-29

YOU WILL SEE NOTHING: IT IS WITHIN

Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, 21 nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is in your midst.”[    Luke 17:20-21

 HEAVEN PREPARED?

HEAVEN HAS ALWAYS BEEN PREPARED

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.      Matt 25:34

JESUS IS GOING TO PREPARE IT

My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.      John 14:2-3

WHO WILL BE JUDGED?

BELIEVERS WILL NOT BE JUDGED

“Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.      John 5:24

EVERYBODY WILL BE JUDGED

But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken.     Matt 12:36

When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, “Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.”     Matt 12:2

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.      2 Cor 5:10

Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,      Heb 9:27

Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear.      1 Pet 1:17

Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones 15 to judge everyone, and to convict all of them of all the ungodly acts they have committed in their ungodliness, and of all the defiant words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”     Jude 1:14-15

And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done.      Rev 20:12-13

 WHO JUDGES?

GOD JUDGES

Old Testament = Ps 62:12, 82:1, 98:9, Jer 17:10, Joel 3:12,

Now we know that God’s judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. So when you, a mere human being, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgment? Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?

But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed.      Rom 2:2-5

Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.        Rom 3:19

So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.       Rom 14:12

All this is evidence that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering.        2 Thess 1:5

Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear.      1 Pet 1:17

GOD DOES NOT JUDGE; JESUS JUDGES

Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son,       John 5:22

And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man.

28 “Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29 and come out—those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned. 30 By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.     John 5:27-30

Jesus said,[a] “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.”      John 9:39

He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead.       Acts 10:42

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.      2 Cor 5:10

GOD JUDGES THROUGH JESUS

For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”       Acts 17:31

JESUS DOES NOT JUDGE

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.      John 3:17

You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one.     John 8:15

“If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.      John 12:47

JESUS SAYS HE CANNOT JUDGE

Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father.”      Matt 20:23

Jesus replied, “Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?”     Luke 12:14

THE DISCIPLES WILL JUDGE

Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.     Matt 19:28

so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.      Luke 22:30

THE SAINTS WILL JUDGE

Or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases?     1 Cor 6:2

TEN THOUSAND OF THE SAINTS WILL HELP THE LORD JUDGE

Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones      Jude 14

 WHEN IS JUDGEMENT?

IN JESUS’ TIME

Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out.     John 12:31

AFTER JESUS’ DEATH

For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”     Acts 17:31

AFTER EACH PERSON’S DEATH

Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,     Heb 9:27

AFTER THE EARTH IS DESTROYED

By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.[a]

11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.[b] That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.      2 Pet 3:7-12

ORIGINAL SIN

“Original sin” generally, which means that all humanity is punished for Adam’s sin

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—      Rom 5:12

For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.      Rom 5:19

or as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.     1 Cor 15:22
